Fighting Irish Marching Band Featured in Guest Performance at Ohio State University Skull Session
October 30, 2024–Buckeyes fans enjoyed the sounds of the Fighting Irish during pre-game activities at The Ohio State University on October 26.
The St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Marching Band was the featured guest during Ohio State’s Skull Session, a time-honored tradition that serves as The Ohio State University Marching Band's final pre-game music rehearsal during game days. The football team and Head Coach Ryan Day also made an appearance at the Skull Session in St. John Arena, energizing fans prior to the kickoff against Nebraska.
More than 10,000 Buckeyes fans filed into the arena three hours before kick off and were treated to a wide variety of songs from the Fighting Irish’s 2024 repertoire including Crazy Train, Soak Up the Sun and Smoke on the Water. The STVM band’s upperclassmen also received tickets to attend the game at Ohio Stadium, sitting with the OSU band just behind the south endzone and getting an up-close view of what it is like to be a member of a Big Ten marching band.
The St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Marching Band is comprised of more than 50 members and performs annually at all Fighting Irish football games, local band shows and parades in Akron and Cleveland. The band has performed over the years for thousands of people on national and international stages in New York City, Chicago, Walt Disney World and most recently at the 2024 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. STVM’s instrumental musical program also provides opportunities for students to participate in symphonic, jazz and pep bands as well as solo and ensemble contests and university honors bands.
