Job Shadowing

Job shadowing is an opportunity for students to learn first-hand about careers and job skills by actually spending time in the workplace. Students are encouraged to start shadowing in a career fields of interest as early as Freshman year. They can set this up on their own outside of school, or talk with their counselor about opportunities through the school.

  • Engineering

    Every year local organizations/companies organize a shadowing experience for interested students. Timken has a program called Engineer for a Day and students are matched to area businesses according to the student's engineering discipline choice. A typical visit to a host company might include an overview of the company's business and products, a facility tour, and a chance to spend a few hours one-on-one with an engineer so the students can experience the daily projects and problems that engineers work on and solve.

    *This opportunity is offered in February, and students must sign up by the first week of January. Announcements will be made in December.

Resume Information

The extracurricular resume provides colleges with a list of activities performed outside of the classroom setting. The activities listed should include involvement in your parish, community, summer athletic programs, and/or part-time employment, etc. Only include activities where you have significant involvement. Student will be completing this in their English classes, and resumes should be uploaded into the Naviance/Family Connections website.

    The Business & Government Division can help you with your career planning or job search. They offer links to job and career websites, employment resources, resume writing and interview resources, business databases to research potential employers, free online vocational practice tests, and skill-building tutorials that cover many areas of interest.
  • Summit 2020 Map Your Career Guide Interactive Dashboard
    This interactive dashboard allows visitors to explore hundreds of career paths, and includes salary information, required education or certification, and experience necessary. The dashboard also allows visitors to compare salary levels to cost of living by family size. 
  • ConexusNEO: Labor Market Information
    The ConexusNEO website provides career pathway infographics for jobseekers and students in the areas of health care, advanced manufacturing, and information technology that can help them begin careers in high-demand fields.
