What is the HSPT?
The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is a national exam which tests students in five core areas: verbal ability, quantitative ability, reading, math and language arts. This test is a required part of our admissions process. Students can take the HSPT here or at other Catholic high schools. A student who is interested in an academic scholarship, a STVM Foundation scholarship, or being a part of our intervention program, is required to take the HSPT at STVM.
Test results are usually available two weeks after students test and the score report is sent from Scholastic to the email address used to register the student for the test. STVM uses the HSPT scores along with 7th and 8th grade report cards, teacher recommendation forms and an admission application to see if our academic program would be a good match for your student.
Potential intervention students (students with an IEP, ETR or 504 plan) can take the HSPT with needed testing accommodations on any date. Our enrollment office would request a copy of the IEP, ETR or 504 plan so that your student could be approved for accommodations such as extended time, a reader or a small room setting.
Irish Academic Scholarships
Students whose National Percentile (NP) composite score is between the 80th and 99th percentile on the High School Placement Test (HSPT) or Pre-HSPT qualify for this scholarship. These scholarships are renewable all four years, provided the student maintains a 3.5 GPA or higher.
A student must test at STVM on or before November 8th to qualify. If a student receives a higher HSPT score from another local Catholic school, the higher score will be accepted provided our enrollment office receives a copy of the test.
The Class of 2030 award amounts are as follows:
-
99th percentile: $8,000 per year / $32,000 over 4 years
-
95th – 98th percentile: $6,500 per year / $26,000 over 4 years
