Choir and Music Teacher for 2024-25 School Year

Primary Purpose:
The High School Choir and Music Teacher will be responsible for developing an interest in and the ability for creative expression, using skills and techniques of vocal expression consistent with school policies; to develop musical understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of vocal music. The candidate will also provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, social and spiritual growth. Additionally, under the direction of the Band Director the Choir and Music Teacher will assist with the band program.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Teach knowledge and skills in vocal and instrumental music.
  • Develop and implement plans for the choir curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Create an engaging classroom environment conducive to learning that motivates students.
  • Develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies for each student's academic growth.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  • Follow lessons developed by the Band Director.
  • Prepare lesson plans that engage, stimulate and instruct students.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessment.
  • Act as a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to school policies, regulations, and IEP.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, and parents.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Any other assignment deemed appropriate by the building principal.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university.
  • Valid Ohio teaching certificate.
  • Expertise in vocal music. General knowledge of instrumental music.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
  • Proficient in using technology as an instructional and management tool.
  • Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior high school teaching experience is preferred.
  • The position requires VIRTUS certification and FBI/BCI background check.
